If you’re looking for a post about "runner’s high" and effortless miles, you’ve come to the wrong place. This week was a masterclass in just showing up when everything—including my own body—was telling me to stay in bed.
The Mid-Week Grind (Tuesday & Thursday)
I kicked things off on Tuesday with a 6.11 km loop through the Forest. Between HillV2 and the Singapore Quarry, it was 50% hilly terrain and 100% humidity. I spent most of the run worrying about the Indonesian haze and trying to keep sweat from stinging my eyes. It wasn't fast (11:15 min/km), but it was honest work.
Thursday was a lesson in rhythm. I tried to chase a 180 BPM metronome on the Dairy Farm/Hume loop, but my body wasn't having it. Note to self: 150 BPM is my "Goldilocks" zone. Anything faster and I’m just fighting the beat instead of running it.
The "Grit" 10k (Saturday)
Today was the Big Test: 10.03 km. On paper, it looks like a success. In reality? It was a battle.
The Sabotage: A "romantic" Friday outing involved 10,000 steps of window shopping in the Civic District and enough strong coffee to keep me awake until midnight.
The Toll: Running on zero sleep with a frozen right shoulder is one thing. But by the last 2km on the Upper Bukit Timah pavement, my lower left back was absolutely killing me.
The Finish: I barely made 10km in 2 hours. There was no "bonus mileage" today—just a very determined u-turn at King Albert Park and a desperate need for a chair.
The Post-Race Fallout
I missed Pat at the monkey bars because he was still trudging through his 22km. We’ve officially hit systemic fatigue as a household.
The Silver Lining? My AI "coach" gave me the green light for a Burger King Double Flame-Grilled burger. Apparently, the sodium and protein are "medicinal." I’m not going to argue with science.
Final Stats for the Week:
Total Distance: ~22 km
Current Status: Horizontal.
Mood: Proud, but mostly just hungry.
Reflection: Some weeks are about personal bests. This week was about personal persistence.
